Amazon To Launch Android Tablet In Second Half Of 2011?

A few months ago we told you thatAmazon is working on a line of Android powered devices. The rumors about Amazonentering the world of Android devices begun when Amazon’s Lab126 posted 180 job openings. Then it was reported that the online retailer signed a partnership with Quanta Computers.
We rapidly forgot about that story, but today the rumor mill spins again and brings some new information about Amazon’s Android tablets.
At least that’s what the rumors say. It seems that Kindle was a hit for Amazon and recent studies show that on a mature market like the US are, the e-readers are still selling better then the tablets.
The famous online store is getting ready to launch two tablets. Rumor has it that the two devices will go under the names of Coyote – which will be a dual-core tablet – and Hollywood – featuring a quad-core Kal-El chipset.
As you already guessed, both chipsets come from nVidia and it seems that Amazon chose Android to power their new tablets. We believe that the quad-core tablet will arrive in 2012 and will be running on Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.0.
It seems that Amazon will begin shipping out the Tegra 2 tablet starting September 2011 and that the onlineretailer initially ordered 2 million units, then lowered the number to 1.5 million. The reasons seems to be the success registered by Apple’s iPad 2, which generates big pressures on the part manufacturers in Asia.
If the rumors are true, it will be pretty interesting, as the second half of the year is announced to be very busy, as not less than 10 models are waiting in line to be presented in front of the crowds and hit the stores. In this situations the tablet prices should be going down.
We’ll wait and see what happens, and we are pretty sure that new details will surface if the Amazon Android tablet rumors are true.
