iPhone 4 Prototype For Sale On eBay At $26k

We are all wondering how the newiPhone 5 will look, but it seems we will have to wait a little bit further until it hits the market. Anyway we all expected to have a peek at the new iPhone 5 at WWDC 2011, but Jobs decided to let us wait some more and came up on the stage to present the new iCloud, iOS, and MacOS X Lion.
As you probably know, all the Apple devices are heavily tested before they hit the market and the same had happened with iPhone 4 before it was officially revealed.
Although Apple always takes care that the prototypes of the devices to be returned by those testing them before the official release, it seems that an iPhone 4 prototype is now up for auction on eBay.
The seller claims that he legally bought the smartphone from a guy who wasn’t able to activate it and who didn’t knew that it owns an iPhone 4 prototype. So, it claims that the aquisition was more than legal.
Because the smartphone he now owns is a prototype, the guy thought that it would be fair that the auction to start at $26,000 and if we look at the bids so far, it seems that there are lots of Apple enthusiasts interested in the device, as a bidder eve offered $33,000 for the handset.
For a regular user the price is colossal and I see no reason why you’d want to pay such a large amount of money on an iPhone 4 prototype, but for Apple’s competitors, getting their hands on such a device would help them understand how Apple tests their devices.
It’s very likely that the highest bidder to be someone working for Apple, as the company doesn’t want the device to end up on wrong hands. The jailbreakrs might also be interested in buying the iPhone 4 prototype, running on a special software, but I personally don’t believe any of them would want to pay so much for the device.
