NANOROCKETS NEW TECHNOLOGY TO DELIVER MEDICINE IN BLOOD

Faster delivery is always better when it comes to pizza, Thai food and now... drugs? Doctors seem to think so as they're experimenting with a new method of delivering medicine to the bloodstream via tinynanotubes powered by rocket fuel. By storing healing meds within the platinum-coated metal tubes, doctors have been able to propel the tiny vessels up to 200 times their own length per second -- faster than swimming bacteria. It works as such: by introducing a hydrogen peroxide/water solution, the platinum reacts, sending it zipping forward and catalyzing the peroxide into water and oxygen. The downside? Even though the fuel is only .25 percent peroxide, it's still slightly toxic -- so it looks like it's back to the drawing board until they can develop a safer alternative. Spiders, perhaps? Check out the video demonstration after the break.

APPLE'S "LETS TALK IPHONE" EVENT

Unlike, all the previous years, Apple did not announce a new iPhone at this year’s WWDC. The company only announced iOS5, and a new version of Max OS X – Lion.

A few days ago it was rumored that Apple will hold an event on October 4 to announce the next-generation iPhone. Apple confirmed the rumors by sending out press-invites for its ‘Let’s Talk iPhone’ event. The event will be held at the company’s own Town Hall auditorium at its Headquarters in Cupertino, California.
This will be the first time, Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook will make a public appearance. It will be interesting to see whether Cook will be successfully able to fill in the large shoes of Steve Jobs or not. I hope Steve Jobs will also make a surprise visit at the event.
However, unlike last time, Apple won’t be live-streaming the event. This means, that people like who won’t be physically present at the location, will be missing all the action. Thankfully, some lucky folks from online media like Engadget, This Is My Next, Mac Rumors etc. will be present at the event, and will live blog it for the unlucky souls like us who won’t be there.
Below is a list of links where users can follow the event –:
Alternatively, users might be able to watch the live-stream from here. An audio stream of the event might also be available here, when the event starts.

MICROSOFT RELEASES ANDROID APPLICATION | MICROSOFT LATEST APPLICATION

Those running Android usually get their emails via Google's own Gmail while Windows Phone users probably prefer the Windows Live Hotmail offering. However, if you're on Android and still use Microsoft's Hotmail, Redmond has released a free Android app for you.

With the dedicated application you get instant notifications of an incoming email thanks to the usage of push email. The app allows you to synccalendar and contacts, view Hotmail folders and sub folders, send pictures from your phone using Hotmail, and set up multiple accounts. You can get the application for free or you can always use the Exchange Hotmail as it works flawlessly with Android too.

TOSHIBA REGZA DBR-M 190

There's no question that Japan gets all the cool gadgets -- many of which never make it stateside. Well, we have yet another tease for you, in the form of an eight-tuner Toshiba DVR with five terabytes of storage. The DBR-M190 reserves six of those tuners (and four TBs of storage) for its Time Shift recording, which as its name implies, transports you to an alternate dimension -- in realtime, mind you -- allowing you to watch past HD episodes of those favorite Japanese programs that you otherwise neglected to record. OK, fine, it can't actually shift physical time, but the home DVR does allow you to record 15 full days of HD content from six channels. Or 30 days from three channels, or 90 days from one -- you get the idea. It also offers 3D Blu-ray playback. Huzzah!

There's some pretty heavy compression in place in order to squeeze all that HD content with the allotted storage, but Toshiba reps insisted that the content looks acceptable. Clever as they are, reps also neglected to have that heavily compressed HD video available for demo at CEATEC, but were happy to let us peek at a show recorded using a much more liberal amount of compression, which nets you just one-fifth of the advertised amount (think three days, not 15). Still, three days of 24 hour content from six channels ain't too shabby, but that 200,000 yen price tag (about $2,600) is a bit of a deal breaker, no? As is the fact that you can't plug this puppy into cable networks overseas (Time Shift is only compatible with basic cable channels in Japan). Jump past the break to see it in action, and expect to see it hit Japanese shores sometime in mid-December.

FIRST HD SMARTPHONE | LG ANNOUNCES OPTIMUS

There's been no real shortage of leaks concerning the LG Optimus LTE. We've seen the phone pictured in the wild several times and now the manufacturer has officially announced the phone.

Running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the Optimus LTE packs a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor, 4.5-inch "IPS true HD" display with 720 x 1280 resolution, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of Internal Storage, microSD card slot with 16GB card bundled, eight-megapixel main camera, 1.3-megapixel front facer, WiFi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, HDMI-out, WiFi direct and DLNA, all powered by an 1,830mAh battery.

The phone will be available on Korea's SK Telecom and LG U+ starting October 5 but we already wish LG will go international from day-one.

HTC RADAR AND HTC TITAN ON SALE

Whether you're a spendthrift or just happened to be down at the shops, Phones4U had an extra earlybird special this past weekend. Turns out the mobile retailer had received stock of both the HTC Titan and Radar ahead of the planned October 7th launch date, and did what any good commercial enterprise would -- they put'em up for sale. If you're down with carrier chains, you can snatch both handsets in-store or online gratis, with a contracted monthly fee on Orange, T-Mobile or Vodafone (for the Titan only). For the no SIM attached route, you'll have to practice a wee bit more patience, and wait until this Friday when Clove will offer the Mango phones at full price -- £489 and £329, respectively. Statesiders, take a deep breath, your crack at this first wave of Windows Phone 7.5 devices is close at hand.

USING PANDORA WITH IE9 ON WINDOWS PHONE

When Windows Phone 7 was originally announced it was also announced that Pandora would be creating an app for it. That never happened, but now that Windows Phone 7.5 includes a fully HTML5-compatible hardware-accelerated version of Internet Explorer 9 and now that Pandora.com is HTML5 compliant, you can just log-in and play Pandora playlists through your phone's web browser. You might find the HTML5 site to be a little buggy, but if you try skipping a song or changing the volume in the Pandora player, it will probably start working. The site is also fairly graphic and javascript heavy, so you'll notice it might be a bit slow on mobile devices. Granted, once you get the music streaming, you'll have full multi-tasking capabilities! That's right, you can switch apps and use other programs as much as you want an the music will continue to stream. You don't even have to go back to the web browser to stop it. Just press one of the volume buttons and you'll have a pause/play button right there. As long as you don't start playing some other media, that media control will also let you resume whatever you were listening to… again, without having to go back to the browser.

Does all of this work with Bluetooth A2DP stereo systems, headphones, and car stereos you ask? Yes, indeed it does.

HTC DESIRE SOFTWARE UPDATE

Brings Sense 3.0 UI and Android 2.3.5

HTC announced the successor to the original Desire, the Desire S at MWC this year. Compared to the predecessor, the S sports a faster CPU and GPU, along with more RAM and internal memory. When announced, the handset ran Android 2.3 Gingerbread, with Sense v2.1.

Now, it looks like HTC have started rolling out a new software update for the Desire S, which bumps the Android OS version to 2.3.5. The update also brings the latest version of Sense UI to the Desire S, which is quite surprising. The Sense v3.0 UI sports some nifty features like a lock screen with shortcuts, new animations and an updated launcher.
The update also brings some new widgets including Clock, Weather and Photo grid widgets, the latest version of Android Market, Calendar app and new Live Wallpapers. Post the update; Desire S owners can also use HTC’s Watch service. Users are also reporting a massive improvement in GPS performance.
It will be interesting to see how the new version of Sense affects the performance of the phone. The Sense 3.0 UI was considered to be a major culprit for all the lags and slowdowns on the dual-core powered HTC Sensation.

SAMSUNG GALAXY IN U.K. ON 17 NOVEMBER

The Samsung Galaxy Note, introduced at this year's IFA with its outrageous 5.3-inch screen, was rumored to hit the British market late November. According to Samsung, the phone will be available a little earlier than that.

Those in the U.K. waiting to get their hands on the phone that stretches your pockets' limits will probably be able to get it mid-November. The information comes from Samsung itself who announced November 17 as the availability date. The phone packs a 5.3-inch Super AMOLED HD screen of 800 x 1280 resolution, 1.4GHz dual-core Exynos processor, 16 GB Internal Storage, eight-megapixel main camera, two-megapixel webcam plus the usual suspects, and a stylus. Now we need an American variant!

ARCHOS G9 TABLET LATEST UPDATE

Firmware update brings Google Talk integration

Listen up, Archos G9 owners, because there's a hefty firmware update headed your way. The new upgrade, which only recently began rolling out, integrates Google Talk directly within the firmware and introduces a number of bug fixes to the freshly released Honeycomb slates. More specifically, version 3.2.46 brings enhanced volume controls, sharpened camera quality and Flash acceleration support to the eight- and ten-inch tablets, along with a host of other tweaks.

ALIBABA WANTS TO ACQUIRE YAHOO

At the China 2.0 conference at Stanford on Friday, Alibaba CEO Jack Ma stated that he is “very much interested” in acquiring Yahoo, despite the company going under heavy loss.
During a speech, Jack Ma told that Alibaba is keen on buying the Internet giant Yahoo. He stated – “We are very interested in Yahoo.Jack Ma Our Alibaba group is important to Yahoo and Yahoo is important to us. There are so many people who are interested in that, and we are also talking to them”
Alibaba now falls in line with the increasing list of companies which are interested in buying Yahoo, including software giant Microsoft, Hellman & Friedman, Andreesen Horowitz, and the private equity firm Silverlake Parnets, which have already approached Yahoo, but failed to strike a deal. It was rumored that Yahoo’s co-founder and one-time CEO – Jerry Yang – was planning to buy the company – most probably by acquiring 50 percent of the shares, and take control over it, again.
On February 1, 2008, Microsoft offered $44.6 billion to buy the Internet giant, but Yahoo was holding out for $37 a share and the offer was withdrawn. Yahoo’s share in 2008 valued at $31 a share, and today the figure is entirely reversed as the stocks are trading at $13.
However in 2009, Microsoft and Yahoo made a deal in which Microsoft would provide search services to Yahoo in exchange for search ad revenue. According to the deal, Microsoft will power Yahoo’s search technology for 10 years, also gaining access to Yahoo’s search technology assets. Microsoft in return will give Yahoo a percentage of the ad revenue generated alongside those searches.

APPLE REJECTS SAMSUNG OFFER

Apple rejects Samsung's settlement offer in Australia, seeks to 'maintain the status quo

"Thanks, but no thanks." That's essentially what Apple told Samsung today, in rejecting an offer to end their ongoing patent dispute in Australia. Samsung's proposed settlement, presented on Friday, would've allowed the manufacturer to sell its Galaxy Tab 10.1 within Australia as early as this week, despite Apple's contention that the tablet infringes upon a handful of its patents. The agreement would've also resulted in a speedy court decision, but today, Cupertino told an Australian court that the proposal was simply unacceptable. "It is one we don't accept and there is no surprise," Apple attorney Steven Burley told reporters. "The main reason we are here is to prevent the launch and maintain the status quo." Samsung's lawyers, meanwhile, acknowledged that the rejection now lessens the chances for any settlement at all, arguing that a truce "is not going to be achievable... given the positions advanced by each party," and that the litigation may extend well into 2012. One of the Samsung's attorneys, Neil Young, added that his client isn't in a rush to conclude the dispute, speculating that it may take until March to prepare its defense. "If we can't get a decision out by mid-October, there is no urgency," Young explained. Neither Samsung nor Apple have offered official comment on today's developments, but we'll keep you abreast of the latest.

APPLE OFFER NEW FREE 3GS

Tomorrow’s iPhone event is just around the corner. Today, analyst Mike Abramsky with RBC Capital Markets said he expects Apple to introduce a new iPhone this week, possibly an “iPhone 5″ or “iPhone 4S”. In addition, he doesn’t expect Apple to introduce a second, cheaper iPhone model, but instead reduce the prices of its existing lineup.
In fact, he predicts that the iPhone 4 price will drop to the $99 subsidized price, and $499 without a contract. Abramsky also believes that Apple will retain the iPhone 3GS in its lineup, offering it for free with a two-year carrier agreement, or $399 contract-free.
This would be a significant change from past years because Apple has usually discontinued its two-year-old iPhone models. Last year, when the iPhone 4 launched, the iPhone 3GS was dropped to $99 with a contract, and later on the price was reduced to $49.
Last June, he expected Apple to offer the iPhone 3GS for free once the iPhone 5 launches.

We expect Apple to reduce the price of the prior iPhone 4 to $99 subsidized ($499 unsubsidized) and the iPhone 3GS to $0 subsidized ($399 unsubsidized, see 11/06/29 note for more detail and rationale); the prior iPhone 4 may be available only with 8GB memory.
Apple is expected to unveil its next-genration iPhone and iPod touch on October 4th at 10 AM PST, during a press event. Numerous rumors have suggested that these would be an “iPhone 4S” and an iPod touch with 3G capabilities (which I don’t see happening).

MICROSOFT LATEST UPDATE | MICROSOFT UPDATES WITH MANGO | MICROSOFT AND MANGO

Microsoft fixes NoDo nightmare with super-efficient Mango rollout

On September 27, 2011, Microsoft began its rollout of the Windows Phone 7.5 operating system update. This update, codenamed Mango, is significant for Microsoft for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, it brings 500-odd new and updated features to Windows Phone 7, bringing it closer to the competition like iOS and Android. More importantly, it is also a litmus test for Microsoft’s update process after the disastrous update experience earlier (with “NoDo” and “SSL certificate” updates). This article focuses on the excellent job Microsoft has been able to do in the update process.

AMAZON KINDLE UPDATE

Amazon puts the kibosh on Kindle Touch 3G's experimental browsing free ride

Back in the early '90s, a certain Mr. Vandross and Ms. Jackson serenaded us with a little ditty on the benefits of free goods. Well, it might be time they updated the track because the best things in this eReading life are no longer free over a carrier's 3G. If you happened to grow accustomed to sucking down data on your AT&T- or Sprint-enabled Kindle keyboard, we'd advise you to hold off on that newly introduced upgrade. An Amazon rep lurking the web retailer's forums this past weekend delivered the disheartening news that experimental browsing over 3G on the Kindle Touch would no longer be supported. Sure, you can still connect to WiFi and surf via the clumsy E Ink browser, but where's the on-the-go, loophole-exploiting fun in that? Bookworms with a predilection for an interwebbed free lunch should cling tightly to their outdated eReaders.

NOBLE PRIZE FOR 2011 | NOBLE PRIZE OF PHYSICS IN YEAR 2011

Awarded To Cosmology Team For Observing Acceleration of Universe Expansion

The Physics Nobel goes to Cosmology Team for their observation of the acceleratingexpansion of the Universe. This led to the hypothesis of Dark Energy. Names of winners follow.

Physics Nobel is the most prestigious Nobel, feel many, especially since Alfred Nobel himself mentioned it first in his will. The fascination with Physics Nobel winners of the last century is understandable, given the huge names, which would’ve still been big without the Nobel. For 2011, the forerunners of the Nobel seem to be Alain Aspect (famous for his Aspect Experiment on the EPR effect), John Clauser and Anton Zeilinger.

LG OPTIMUS | LG OPTIMUS LATEST UPDATE | LG OPTIMUS NOW OFFICIAL | LG OPTIMUS UPDATE | FEATURES OF LG OPTIMUS

High-speed data alongside a high-definition IPS display

It may not be the biggest phone reveal coming in the next 24 hours, but leaked details had already piqued our interest in LG's next big thing. The Optimus LTE's screen rivals Apple's Retina Display at 326ppi and that high-definition sharpness is slathered on a 4.5-inch AH-IPS display. The sizable 1830mAh battery should be enough to keep the phone ticking over despite these high-end specs, which include a confirmed 1.5GHz dual-core CPU and eight megapixel camera. Will we get to see it on these shores? We're not sure of its travel itinerary after it reaches Korea, but we'd love to see this and Samsung's latest LTE wares tussle for our affections.

LATEST UPDATES OF INTEL | LATEST CHANGE IN INTEL

Four Atom chips sneak out of Intel, soon to appear in netbooks and nettops

Rarely do you hear of new chips sneaking out of Intel,Escape from Alcatraz-style. But that's (figuratively) happened today, with a quartet of processors appearing with little fanfare from Chipzilla. Two of these you might recognize as members of the delayed Cedar Trail series, the D2500 and D2700. The former clocks at 1.86GHz and 2.13GHz, with the latter upping that to 2.13GHz and 2.4Ghz; both have a thermal design power of less than 10W. The other two chips sip power even more judiciously: the N2600 has a TDP of less than 3.5W at 1.6GHz or 1.86GHz; the N2800 has a 6.5W TDP, running at 1.86GHz or 2.13GHz. All include GPUs, with the N2000 series destined for netbooks, while the D2000 series should end up in nettops.

LATEST NEW TECHNOLOGY BICYCLE | LATEST TECHNOLOGY

Well, NTT DoCoMo is at it again, this time dabbling in the fine art of bicycle sharing. The Japanese mobile carrier's own flavor is currently undergoing beta testing in Yokohama, just outside Tokyo, and uses a familiar kiosk system to collect and dish out bikes. Residents (and tourists with Japanese cell phone numbers) can rent bikes 30 minutes at a time for 105 Yen (about $1.40) for the first half hour, then 210 Yen for each subsequent period. You also rent bikes by the month for 1,050 Yen (about $14). Overall, this implementation doesn't appear to be different than what's already been installed in some US and European cities, but it's apparently a first for the Tokyo area.
