GameStop: EA’s Battlefield 3 Will Not Be Available Through Valve’s Steam

GameStop is messing with Valve’s business by saying that Battlefield 3 will not be available for download through Steam, fact which confirms the rumors which began last month. When EA launched its own digital game downloads service last month, Valve has decided to remove a couple of EA games from Steam including Crysis 2.
Although Valve didn’t comment on the decision, EA broke the silence and announced that Steam’s new terms of service prevent Crysis 2 to be available on the world’s most popular digital download platform. EA has also listed a few online retailers that will distribute Battlefield 3 when it becomes available on October 25th this year, but Steam wasn’t one of them.
So far both Valve and EA have remained quiet specifically regarding Battlefield 3, though the video game publisher said that it will try to do its best to continue the partnership with Steam because the consumers are the ones who will lose everything.
Steam is a digital download service who requires users to start a specific application if they want to run the game, however, the trend is changing, said GameStop, therefore Battlefield 3 will be available through Origin and GameStop, and not through Steam.
Other EA partners that will distribute Battlefield 3 online we can find GamersGate along with Direct2Drive. It seems like this problem is affecting the whole world, not only the US so if you want this game, you’re going to have to buy the physical disc rather than download it on the web.
EA might be the one to blame for this situation because the publisher said that it’s “directly responsible” to bring updates and patches to the gamers therefore they want to have full control over when they are distributed. Valve’s Steam doesn’t offer this advantage therefore people should choose Origin.
Still EA added that anybody can sell their games including online shops like Amazon, but if the updates and patches don’t get to your computer in time, then the video game publisher will take the full blame and it doesn’t want things like this to happen ever again.
Electronics Arts’ CEO said that only one digital games downloads platform prevents the company from having a great relationship with the gamers and that is Steam.
Anyway at the moment neither EA or Valve posted official information regarding Battlefield 3 so I guess we’re going to have to trust GameStop on this one.
You can pre-order Battlefield 3 for PC here, Xbox 360 here, and PS3 here.
