Samsung will reveal a new high-end smartphone in early fall, suggests a report from Yahoo! Korea. The new smartphone will be a hybrid device between a tablet and a smartphone as it will feature a giant 5.3-inch touchscreen in order to provide better browsing, improved GPS navigation, and enhanced mobile gaming experience.
The tablet-phone will be called Samsung Q and it’s the result of extensive testing of how much a user can carry in his pocket. Although many consumers believe that big touchscreens are failures on the mobile market, the Dell Streak 5 and the Samsung Infuse 4G have done relatively well in terms of sales. The former sports a 5-inch touchscreen, while the latter is powered by a gorgeous 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display.
At first Samsung was skeptical about a handset with a display bigger than 5-inch because the users would be confused whether it’s a tablet or a phone, but the slate market has proved that it cannot and that it shouldn’t go beyond the 7-inch to 10.1-inch size limit.
The report says that the Samsung Q release date is the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Fair which takes places in Berlin. IFA is one of the largest consumer electronics shows in the world and it’s the world’s oldest of its kind. The IFA Berlin Radio Show opens its doors annually in September as of 2005, while the first event took place more than 75 years ago.
By the time it becomes available, the Samsung Q will become the best smartphone on the market as it will sport a high-end processor, a large touchscreen, and 4G LTE chipset which suggests the fact that in the US it will be subsidized by Verizon. However, it will not be very surprising for this handset to become the first AT&T 4G LTE device as the US carrier is preparing to launch this network by the end of the year.
The Samsung Q will be running on Android OS and if the screen size is that big then we can only think that the build version will say Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0, but this remains to be determined during the IFA 2011 event.
