MUMBAI, INDIA: Putting an end to the wait and further intensifying the tablet war in the country, BlackBerry maker Research in Motionreleased its PlayBook tablet in the Indian market today.
Available in three models, with capacities of 16 Gb, 32 Gb and 64 Gb, the tablet PCs are priced at Rs 27,990, Rs. 32,990 and Rs. 37,990 respectively.
BlackBerry PlayBook, distributed by Redington India and Ingram Micro, will be initially available in 1000 retail stores across eight cities in the country, said Research In Motion.
The new tablet hits the Indian market at a time when Apple's iPad 2 has already created ripples in the country.
To make hay in the tablet arena, gadget maker HTC Corporation has also announced that it is launching its Flyer tablet in India this month.
Launched in the US market in April, the PlayBook failed to make an initial impact and many reviews described it as a 'half baked' product. However, RIM has high expectations about the Indian market.
